WHAT is CROSS?
CROSS (Citizen Reinforcing Open Smart Synergies) is a project co-financed by the European Union within the framework of European Programme (CIP Framework Programme for Competitiveness and Innovation), born with the aim and the ambition to create an innovative ecosystem and a new mentality to deal with the challenges and difficulties arising from the economic crisis.
The idea of CROSS stems from a resolution of the European Parliament (2008), which identifies voluntary work as possibly the most sustainable type of renewable resource.
The world of volunteering is an asset to many realities. However it is implicit as it acts in a non-monetary. CROSS wants to give value to these realities through the creation and use of a digital platform able to link public authorities, voluntary organizations and users.
HOW does it work?
CROSS This digital CROSS platform has the purpose of reporting non-economic transactions in four main areas:
A revolutionary idea: everyone can contribute to the welfare of the community by helping the most vulnerable of society and by seeing his work reworded in form of public services handed out by the government.
WHERE is CROSS?
The experimental fase of the CROSS project will start in four EU metropolitan areas: Rome, Turin, Manchester and Seville. These CROSS Pilots have the goal to encourage a non-monetary market within their own framework, adopting an horizontal subsidiarity system and involving various stakeholders, like public administrations, citizens, voluntary associations, promoters of public services and digital applications developers.
The aim is to create an enviroment where everyone can play its part to improve the quality of the daily city life throughout a sustainable, smart and inclusive growth. Every actor involved will be able to lend their skills and expertise:
- developers will process tools to facilitate communication and the exchange of digital information on the web and on mobile devices (proposals will be evaluated through call for APPS launched by the CROSS Pilots;
-voluntary organizations will grant their area expertise, providing the project with specific data of their own area of responsibility and availability by offering to users the chance to cooperate within their organizations;
-Public administrations will ensure for users and organizations to take advantage of the city public services in exchange for volunteer work performed, so to foster the culture of non-monetary exchange.
In this way these four Pilots will act as an example by showing that, in times of crisis, it is possible to undertake a non-monetary economic system that does not leave anyone behind and at the same time contributes to the economic, social and cultural development of the society: Growing without Money
